Spider Man

Helix's Review

Hollywood has adapted many comic book superheros for live action films in recent years. Some have worked. Some haven't. The silver screen version of Spider Man has generated buzz for years. Does it live up to the hype? In Helix's opinion, no.

The film makes a noble effort of bringing the Amazing Spider Man to the silver screen but it falls short in many places. Like most such films, the script is predictable, the dialogue bland, and while the visual effects are a strong selling point, some of the action scenes are a bit cartoonish and over-the-top.

Tobey Maguire's casting as Spider Man is the real masterpiece of the movie. He is convincing both as Peter Parker and as Spider Man. Kirsten Dunst plays the role of victim and love interest to perfection. And Willem Dafoe is terrifying - with or without the Green Goblin suit.

Overall, Helix found the film disappointing. But, for a summer popcorn movie, it suited its purpose. It does a good job in introducing the live action Spider Man and setting the stage for the rest of the franchise.
